What to do...what to do....
May. 12th, 2008 10:51 pmSo, I have a slight dilemma: my job, which I do really enjoy. The teacher who runs the Special Education Room, which I work in, is married to a friend of mine who used to be our vice-principal. He now is vice-principal of the Outreach High School, which is a bunch of programs that meet the needs of problem students throughout our city. Some are criminals, some just have real attendance issues, some are in the psych ward at the hospital, some are in the sexual offenders youth center... just a bunch of kids who couldn't, for whatever reason, stay in school.
My dilemma is this: they have an opening for next year at the Outreach and Darran told his wife that he and the principal were talking about me, and thinking I should apply for it.
I love the school I'm at. I love the people, for the most part, that I work with and I even have a soft spot for most of the kids, but Outreach would be more the kind of work that I'm good at. Behaviour students, kids who need someone who understands them, which I do. And I've been in the same position at Paterson for 4 years, change might be good.
I just don't know. My friends that I work out with from Paterson are threatening to sabotage my interview etc. saying I can't possibly leave them. But...Outreach would be a challenging place to work, and I would have a lot of freedom there, just like I do now.
Plus, to make it all more complicated, if I apply I have to tell my administrators, and they won't be happy about it, so if I don't get the Outreach position, I've pretty much shot myself in the foot where I am.
What to do?
Help!
EDIT:
I applied for the position. Darran thinks I have a good shot at it. I talked to my admin. and told her my decision and why. She told me that she understood but that they still really want me at Paterson. But she said that change is good and that I have to make my own choices.
So, the jobs close on Friday. I guess we'll find out after then. Everyone cross their fingers.
